Sylvia Bernstein will be teaching an Aquaponic Gardening class through Boulder's LifeLong Learning program. This class is over two Thursday evenings, and then concludes with a hands-on session at her home greenhouse in Boulder. By the end of this class you will know exactly what you need to do to build, start up and successful operate a home,
media-based aquaponic garden of your own!
Class Description
Imagine growing vegetables and fish together in your backyard this summer. Now imagine that the only work you need to do after your garden is set up is to feed the fish once a day. No weeds, no watering, no heavy, dirty labor---and the plants are growing at table height for easy access. Aquaponics is a new way of growing plants organically and dirt-free using fish waste as plant food. In this class, you will learn how to set up and operate your own Backyard Aquaponics system, including where to locally source food fish and supplies. An optional field trip will take place on a Saturday to visit an operating aquaponics garden.
Please read: Class will meet on Thursdays March 8th & 15th and then on Saturday, March 17th.

Growing Your Community Food System "From the Ground Up" Workshops
From the Ground Up! Workshops are intensive, hands-on trainings offering diverse groups the opportunity to learn, plan, develop, operate, and sustain community food projects. Project participants leave the workshop with improved skills that they can take back into their communities and pass on to others. These workshops are for both rural and urban projects.
Walk Like a Farmer:Please come prepared to get your hands dirty! Leave your dress shoes at home and wear your farmer duds – this is not a dressy training event. Bring work shoes and warm layers of clothing – the greenhouses are very warm and it can be very cold outside, especially during the winter months. Workshops often take place in both settings
